How To Replace Front And Rear Brake Discs & Pads?

Hi,

I own a 2007 Avensis T180 2.2 D0CAT Diesel and would like to know a couple of things please.

First
Can someone recommend somewhere online that I can order brake pads and discs (front & Rear) for my car that are reputable?

Second
Does anyone know how easy/straightforward it is to replace the discs and pads (front & rear)?

Third
Can anyone supply any guide or step by step instructions to do the above?

I'm confident enough to do the job and are pretty practically minded and want to save a few pennies as money is tight at the moment.

Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Richard

Hello Richard, we are all short of cash these days so i have attached a .pdf file of the Avensis T25 braking system, everything you need to know is in there.

As far as the parts are concerned go onto the Euro car parts site http://www.eurocarparts.com/ t

and search the brake section by putting in your reg number that way you should get the correct parts, Pagid are are good brand from their list, there are 2 types listed I think it will be the ones at £46. Europarts have depots all over the UK to collect the parts or they deliver free.

Regards .... Pete.

am sure most on here will agree that the mtec ones for sale on eBay are quite good, certainly a step up from the oem ones that dont really work for such a big car, they come with mintex pads standard but i think they can supply uprated ferodo ones if you require, if you've changed brakes before you'll have no problems, the rear is a slightly weird setup having the handbrake shoes inside the actual discs but not complicated.

You may need a brake rewind tool for the rear calipers to get the pistons back in as you have to turn the piston at the same time as pushing it back. If you get stuck just ask, there are a few people on here who have done it themselves, myself included.

I think the mtecs are actually cheaper than the pagid ones at eurocarparts £105 for a pair of fronts including pads and 89 quid for the rears including pads or you can pay a little more for the black edition ones

Best advice on this should be, although brakes are relatively simple to replace or service, if you are not TOTALLY confident in what you are doing, then as a safety precaution leave them to someone that knows what they are doing. I'm all for saving money and not paying "rip-off garages" BUT safety should always be your first concern. Remember, the ability to stop a car safely and efficiently is the most important factor when driving!
