2000 Avensis Windscreen Washer Pump

I have a 2000 Avensis and some months ago the rear washer stopped working. I was told that it was a single pump so I looked for blockages, leaks etc., but photos from this site usually show two. My front washer has now packed up and so I need to get it fixed. Could someone confirm that I need two pumps and, how do I get at them?

Hi Roger,

The washer reservoir is located in front of the drivers front wheel and bumper.

Unscrew the wheel arch liner and you will see the reservoir and pumps.

Unplug the electrical connections, noting which is front and rear.

If the reservoir has a lot of fluid, you need a container to catch the contents when you pull the pipes off.

The pumps are held by a plastic bracket. Using a flat screw driver depress the retaining catch which is located between the pumps and lift the bracket off.

Finally pull the pumps from the reservoir, have the contain ready to catch the fluid.

The pumps look generic so you may be lucky and get a new set from most motor factors.

Genuine Toyota pumps are expensive - I think about £60-£70 each. When mine needed replacing I got a genuine one from a breaker on eBay - but they were hard to find.
