Satnav Update

Hi all

i have just purchased a feb 2011 Avensis TR which is a delight to drive.

my last car was a T3x Avensis and I used a tomtom satnav which was wholly reliable

unfortunately, it would seem that the maps i now have are not as up to date as my tomtom and i am driving across "open space" where new roads were built more than a year ago (before the car was registered)

the system i have is a TNS510

question

how do i update maps? is this through dealer or do I buy on line?

tomtom had a road angel which helped keep top speed limits with audible warning and also beeped when approaching the "friendly" roadside cameras - does Toyota have a similar pack that can be added to my new system?

any help or advice greatly appreciated

Hello Jim, you can update by dealer or download but the bad news is you can buy a really good TomTom for what they will charge and it will be much better than the Toyota system even updated, you could always see what's on eBay as someone maybe selling a later dvd.

I thought that may be the case. sad to say I think the satnav system is trying to give too many options where tomtom is simple and effective. the car is great and very pleased with it so far.

Just ordered a set of E14s from Toyota and it is costing €150 total. As it comes with 4 DVDs for different regions, the other 3 will be going on eBay when they arrive along with my old E10 (you never know someone might want it). Hopefully that will offset some of the cost.

Edit: price should be euros not pounds.

Mine arrived today and was quite surprised these are not E14 but E15 so they even have my house :) Even TomTom's latest maps are behind these. Now to offload the other three discs.

Hi Jim try this place its a lot cheaper then then Toyota SatNaviAuto, i have had to maps from Toyota till i found this set saved over £100 on the last map

Could you clarify what you mean by "this place" as it doesn't mean anything, where did you actually order the updated map disc from?

if it's the place that I suspect strictly speaking they are "backups" & legally you are meant to already own the original to use them ...

Always a touchy are Sat nav updates due to the cost. The official address to buy a real copy is

They are as mentioned above a copyright item and you should not list places that "sell" copies as it is illegal
