2011 Auris Hsd Audio Options

Hi, as I said in another thread i'm looking to buy a used auris hsd.

All auris hsd I see on the toyota site seem to be from 2011, and most of them don't have a touch screen.

My question is: does bluetooth come standard with all auris or only the ones with the touch screen?

My idea is to stream music from my iPhone over bluetooth.

is it expensive to replace the standard audio setup with the touch screen one?

thanks.

I think all the later Auris have bluetooth, I have had a few models, a TR and HSD and both have bluetooth

The genuine audio is prohibitivly expensive

Thanks,

I ask because on the toyota website it looks like some dealers are very detailed when they actually enter the specs of the cars they're selling while other dealers don't seem to care much.

for example, two Auris of the same year, same model, for one dealer the specs say bluetooth integration while the other same auris for a different dealer does not specify anything related to bluetooth.

The dealer will not be entering up those details manually, he will type in a registration number and the spec will populate from the DVLA. Some dealers might add any accessories that are fitted, therefore getting two different specs for the same car. If bluetooth is NOT fitted, you could get it added as an accessory

Would it not be possible to go down to a dealer and test it?

Anecdotally, it seems we get more posts about problems with Apple products and bluetooth than we do for any other make.

I use my iPhone 4 in my HSD with Sat Nav option; phone and audio playback well. There was an issue with copying the iPhone's contacts to the Auris but there's since been an iPhone BT update but haven't tried since then.

yep I figured the sat nav option does work well with bluetooth - I just wondered about the lower non-sat nav version (the one without touch screen) since those are the majority of used auris hsd for sale

Hi

New here, just got a 2010 Auris HSD T-Spirit without the Nav option and it has bluetooth. I believe that on the earlier cars (pre Touch and Go) bluetooth was standard on the T-Spirit and and an option on the T4. It was not related to the Nav unit. The new Touch and Go cars all have bluetooth as standard. As already said, ignore any posted specs for used cars on the Toyota website because they are nonsense and bear no resemblance whatsoever to what might or might not be on the actual car.

In terms of using BT for audio, I can get mine to stream from an iPhone 4. Sound quality is fine, but the control is limited to going up and down folders and skipping forward/back on tracks i.e. the same function you get by plugging a pen drive into the USB. I can't seem to make it do artist selection or anything fancy. Strangely that's still better than plugging the phone in via USB which recognises it as an iPod but then only allows track up/down - no option to skip folders and still no artist selection. I don't think the phone is on the list of compatible iPod devices though, which may explain that.

Making the BT connection took me several attempts - probably because I wanted it as both a phone and as an audio device. It kept forgetting itself and losing the connection but I kept re-initialising and eventually I stumbled on some combination of options that worked and have continued to work since. The menus are somewhat unintuitive and the instructions in the owner manual don't help at all.

For reference, the handsfree phone function seems to work fine. As expected, choosing to copy contacts from the iPhone doesn't work - in fact it just locked the system up completely and required an ignition-off reboot. Manual entry works fine though. I also don't appear to be afflicted by the 'my phone calls the last incoming number when I turn the ignition off' problem which some others have posted about. Perhaps that was an Apple problem that has been fixed or maybe I've just been lucky.

thank you very much.

most of the cars I've seen on the list are T4, but i'll go to the dealer tomorrow and see and try to compare with the T-spirit.

I believe that if a car has the official bluetooth option fitted it will have the extra phone buttons on the right hand side of the steering wheel. If it hasn't, there will just be a display button.

Anecdotally, it seems more people own Apple products than those of any other make.

FWIW, I have found bluetooth works perfectly with both iPhone 3GS and 4S in the Auris I had on long term loan, and both Priuses I've had.

What you need to remember is that some head units (eg the one in the Prius T4) only support bluetooth for phone calls, while some (eg the one optional in the Auris TSpirit and standard in the Prius TSpirit) support full A2DP for phone calls, contact transfer and streaming music.

:hokus-pokus: I've not noticed that personally. I've always wondered at the ratio of posts about Apple vs a.n.other products.

Articles on sales in the UK or world wide don't seem to suggest that Apple sells more than any other make, but that it probably does make more money on each smartphone. As some of the companies don't fully disclose their sales of units (e.g. Samsung), it is a little tricky to be sure.

As the OP was specifically asking about music streaming, this area seems to be a bit of minefield to navigate through.
