I have 2002 camry XLE v-6. When the engine is cold and reverse is selected

to back out of driveway, the car does not make any unusal sound. But

when drive gear is selected, a thump is quite noticable. The RPM is

1200 or 1300 and dropping. Once ithe car has been driven some all

sound are very normal. I have a 92 lexus with same engine and it doesnt

make any noise when shiffted on a cold engine. Just wondering if anyone

has noticed theirs doing this ?

One possibility besides the tranny is a motor or trans mount.

I noticed the same thing on my 04 Camry LE. Dealer said I need to warm it up. If I let the car warm up for 15~20 seconds, I won't hear any noise. And this seems only happens in cold weather. I never noticed this problem on American cars though. I don't what the cause is. If you find out, please let me know.
