59 Verso Auto Put Itself In First Gear

Recommended Posts

I have a 59 Verso automatic.

Recently when accelerating from a corner I thought the engine sounded noisy. A quick glance at the rev counter showed it was doing nigh on 6,000 rpm. I also noticed that the gear display showed 1 and not D. I'm not sure whether the little M was showing or not.

I checked the gear lever but it was firmly in D.

Putting it into M and then back into D sorted it all out and there have been no repeat performances.

I wondered if anyone else has experienced anything like this.

Did you accidentally knock the down shift paddle on the steering wheel?

That would drop the box down a gear and then hold the current gear selection but would not show a little 'm' in the display.

I owned a RAV 4 with the Multidrive S gearbox before my Verso and would often use the above when overtaking cars.

Also, holding the up shift paddle for 2 seconds will restore the box to auto again

Thanks for response.

I hadn't thought about that. I never use the paddles so tend to forget about them. I'll see if I can replicate it by that means.
