Hello Trev,

The idle control valve, throttle body and vacuum hoses need looking at by removing and cleaning, the hoses to this may be perished or split. Because there is a problem the ECU cannot regulate the idle speed, if you can clean and check things yourself successfully then the ECU will need to "relearn" so after the work is done disconnect the Battery for a while, actually do this before you start the work would be a better idea, then fault code should be cleared. Take the car for a drive and get the engine to normal temperature, hopefully all will be fine.

PS. If your radio is coded make sure your have the code, if not pulling the EFI fuse should reset the ecu instead of disconnecting the Battery NEG lead.

Thanks for reply Pete I will try what you suggest, only thing is I am not sure where the idle control valve is - is it part of the throttle body?
