T180 Buying Advice Vunlerable Engine Identification

Hi all,

I'm considering buying privately a 100k nov 2006 T180 2.2 D4D

I've read here lots of tales of problems with head gaskets with batches of this car.

I'll add that this is a purchase in spain of a spanish registered car.

Is it possible to cross check the VIN number against a Toyota list to predetermine if the car has a propensity to suffer a head gasket fail?

If not, what are the early signs that a cursory examination of the car might suggest I could be buying a problem car?

A similar aged car also on sale I note had it's engine Toyota dealer replaced at 40k, I'm considering if that might be a better more reliable buy?

thanks!

Well, I took the plunge bought it and just drove it 500kms from Barcelona. Goes like stink, lovely trim and relaxed motorway cruiser. Very pleased. Might venture an EGR cleanup as I suspect that is needed.

i bought my 2-2 150bhp with 100k mls

cleaned the EGR valve (mine was partially blocked...side holes in the EGR were blocked)

Goes really well and effortless motorway cruiser

a great car
