I have avensis T3 2006 when I set off at about 10mph get a noise from engine bay like I have run over a tin can??? anyone help

Sounds like a loose heat shield on the exhaust! Try the one on the manifold first! ;)

Does it happen every time you set off, or just once, seconds after the engine is started?

I agree with above, check you exhaust mountings.

exhaust heat shield,

belt idler chirping, not maintaining correct tension to the aux belt, (idler and belt worn)

Does it happen every time you set off, or just once, seconds after the engine is started?

The noise only happens when once seconds after you move off, if you leave it ticking over no noise if you drive at 5mph no noise but when you get to about 10 mph thats when it happens, and it does not happen every time, Ive checked it out and it only seems to do it from cold start, any ideas?????

Could be the automatic ABS brake check. Mostly happens at first start of the day, and just after setting off.

The sound could be described as a very short "clonk".
