My car -2000 miles-has leather seats. My seat has decided to start creaking which the dealer states cannot be cured. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Most leather requires to be moisturised at least every 3 months. There are many types of moisturiser on the market, and if you are in the UK then Tesco's do it for a couple of pound.

What model do you have with the cracks in? as I have just ordered a T-Spirit, which has leather seats, if that is the case I better go and buy some myself - another job for the wife when I get the car ;)

I hope this helps

Yeah I use the Tesco stuff - small white jar lasts months and is very cheap - smells like marzipan / almond. Use sparingly or you will be ages rubbing it in.

I think that's being a bit generous.

I did find though that the leather on the Avensis is of fairly poor quality and is rather thin which is possibly how it starts to lose it's moisture quickly.

Halfords do some wipes which have conditioner in them which are quick and easy to use, but if your leather has already started to crack, all you can do is hide it as the actual damage has already been done.

Although leather does age if abused it should not crack that easily unless it is of a particularly low grade (my dad used to work for a furniture manufacturer - the people who fitted out the QE2 and Oriana in the past as it happens) anyway, the leather on the Camry was of a higher grade and we didnt treat it at all and it still looked in excellent condition at 7 years old and 93k - the LS400 he now has appears to be the same because we noticed a bit of 'grime' in a couple of creases from the previous owners jackets in the leather but has since been easily removed with some Zymol leather cleaner, but that has 136k and doesnt appear to have been treated before.

i have recaro leather sports seats in my vw polo and have only applied the cleaner stuff once in 3 yrs but that was just to say i had done it. it didnt appear to need doing. are you sure it is the leather that is creaking and not a component of the seat?.

Thanks for your repliies--it is a Four month old Avensis T spirit---the dealer states that it is the leather but I will get them to check again.

I have a 2004 Avensis TSpirit that is now 10 months old and has covered 27,000 miles and I have not had any problem with the leather creaking. I treated it once about two months ago as a matter of routine. Perhaps its the seat itself and not the leather
