Prado 1996, 1Kz-Te With Engine Knock-Rebuild Or Replace?

Hi everyone, I recently picked up a SWB auto prado with the turbo intercooled 3L diesel, for cheap as it has a knock. It doesn't sound really bad, but I either want to rebuild or replace. Does anyone know if the Hilux surf model of 1KZ-TE engine is interchangeable with mine? Is there a short block/long block and how would I know the difference. Does my vehicle come with the short or long? And what are the main differences in bolt on auxiliaries and mounts? If anyone also knows an online shop where new/rebuilt bottom ends can be sourced, (Im in NZ) please let me know. I am happy to post photos/videos to help explain problem and engine type. Replace.... with a 1UZ :D

The KZN-185 is very similar, although there was a cross over on year where the engine changed injection type (not sure when, 98ish?)

Not all the KZN-185s were intercooled either..
