Bought One, Pick Up Tomorrow But Problem...

Hello!

This is my first post here, lurked here awhile before sinking in for an iQ (to replace my oh-so-reliable-Renault-Clio). I am picking it up tomorrow but came into an issue when I signed my vehical papers yesterday and varifying my 3 day insurance... I forgot to change the address on my license! I only moved into my new place over 3 weeks ago as I changed job...

According to the sale lady, this causes an issue with the paperwork not matching up and the finance company may reject it until I change my license address. She's checking if I can use my council tax, bank statement and utility bill as proof - but something tells me this is going to bugger up and ruin the 'pick up new car' feeling tomorrow :(

What else can I do? I have my paper license filled out and ready to post off immediately, and last I heard, it takes about a fortnight to get a replacement, not good when I want to get the 0% finance within this month, is it?

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry but 'the lady' appears to have now turned a minor difficulty into a something bigger.

I hope you can get this resolved quickly and get your new car.

Many of us will have a driving licence at one address at which we receive mail and have things registered, insured or financed at other addresses.

Best to really check at the Finance & Insurer, because that will be much easier than counting on anything that the DVLA are doing like precessing a Change of Address on a licence.

As a side note,

The Police and others have asked me in the past why my Licence or car is registered at another address from where i actually live, which is that of a family member & that this is wrong and i should not do it.

I point out that if i am in a fatal Road Accident,

there is no point them coming to my door, as i will not be there to answer and my body is donated as a donor & to science and needs dealing with quickly if it is to be of use to anyone.

all the best.

I believe that you can change the address on your driving licence online, check out the DVLA website. Perhaps then, the insurer/finance company can access the DVLA database confirming your new address?

I don’t understand what the issue is here – I am guessing it is some sort of fraud related check. To have got this far in the deal you must have passed the credit check. Frankly it’s a bit late now to start crossing Ts and dotting Is.

Another form of ID with your current address on should more than suffice.

If it’s just the 3 day drive away insurance that is the issue there may not be a problem as you don’t really need it in these on–line days.

I phoned my insurance company, changed the insurance to the IQ in about 5 minutes. 5 minutes later I downloaded a copy of the new cover note. If you did this the cover note would have your new address on it.

Thanks for the info guys, I just got a phone call from one of the managers at Toyota (Wakefield), my worry have been lifted! All I need is to bring my licence and an alternate proof of address like council tax and I'll be OK. Phew!

Looking forward to picking up the car after work tomorrow!

But you only moved 3 weeks ago? Will you have a utility bill with that address, or did you move 3 MONTHS ago :D: :D:

Kingo

You'll be surprised how fast utility companies and council send their bills upon telling them I moved...

Picked it up yesterday, drove it back and really love it! Coming from a Clio, this car sits abit taller internally and it's a little uncomfortable at first at how short the front is - I feel like I am going to run up against the car parked in front!

I didn't get the sat nav as I never saw the need for it (got Nokia Maps), but without it, my dashboard panel kept reminding me of the 'Cylon' look... if only I was daring enough to mod the dash to have red leds flashing across left and right.

Definitely happy with my change over!

Well done that man! I've just passed 500 miles from new on the odo and it's been the most fun filled 500 miles I've done in a car since I can remember. I like the Cylon reference..... I've had a similar Darth Vader helmet comment!!

Welcome to the world of the IQ - some seem sceptical about the car's practicality until they sit in it. One thing you will notice is that everyone who gets behind the wheel starts smiling almost immediately.

Don't forget to flash you headlights at other IQ drivers. It's an IQ owners thing. :)

Had a good weekend with this lovely car - drove down the M62 to Manchester for my monthly orient shopping - met with a load of stop start traffic along the way but I didn't mind, was enjoying the car and drive too much to care.

Had to tweak the bass and treble up a as the original setup is too flat for my music (rock/metal/alt)

The only thing I found to be an annoyance is the gear ratio, between getting off and hitting cruising speed, gear 2 is too short and if I over rev a little then the 3rd gear becomes short - the shift light is a source of my annoyance to this ratio difference too. Might just be me getting use to a more economical setup or too used to my revving 1-2-3 Renault 1.4 Clio.

Iignore the shift light it drives you made you know when you need to change up and down without a little light telling you
