Can/should I Paint The Towbar And Exhaust With Same Paint?

Hi folks.

I haven't been on for a while, because my car is behaving ...

In fact, running like a dream since I used "Forte" diesel treatment ;)

Anyway, the tow bar is needing a coat of paint.

I was advised, by a tow bar company, to use a chassis paint on it. However, the exhaust will look awful next to it, so I had better paint that too. Am I right in thinking I need to use an exhaust paint to tolerate the heat? For simplicity, can I use it on the tow bar too? Should I really use different paints?

Thanks,

Linda

Linda,

Try hammerite for the towbar. Ideally you should use a heat resistant paint on the exhaust, this is normally quite expensive so not the best choice for chassis parts. In my young and foolish days I used hammerite on a motorcycle silencer and didn't have any problems or disasters. Older and wiser? I couldn't recommend it.

A lot of these exhaust paints also rely on the heat that they are designed to withstand to actually "cure" them properly, Linda, so if you use them on your towbar, it may remain a wee bit tacky and not dry for ages.
