87 Convertible

I just bought an 87 Convertible with no manuals or documentation. The power top is not working and I am manually raising/lowering it--but it's very difficult. It feels like I'm fighting the hydraulics--is there some type of manual override? Thanx!

:(

I bought a red convert last week, you must be lucky as my hood was replaced in 1998 and is manual, i don't know if it was ever electric and it's a uk car.

if the hood wont go down because the motor isnt working, i would start with the fuse, then check the wiring and connectors from the fuse - switch - hood motor.

until my manuals come I'm simply following my nose and working out what does what. if the hydraulics are hard to push down that would be normal without a motor working, be careful you dont distort any mechanism. a bespoke hood specialist may be your ony option unless you are handy or know somone who is.

the hood motor might be seised or knackered, as far as manuals, I have just ordered chilton and haynes from Amazon, but i dont know where to get convertible manuals, i found it hard just trying to find out the BHP and top speed. it seems as only few models where made so info is scarce. i dont think many coupes are kicking aroung either. donor parts are like gold dust and dealer parts are expensive. the 87 model was made between 86 -88 (unless i am corrected) i dont know why it was phased out so soon.

good to hear some one else has a 87 convertible. karl.
