What Spark Plugs For My 2.0Vvti 54 Plate

Hi guys,

I plan on changing my spark plugs this weekend for the above car.

I have conflicting opinions as to what sort of plug I should use.

Halfords Champion plugs seem good value and they only list one choice. However Camberley Auto factors only seem to offer irridium plugs for my car, and they are double the price!!

Can anyone offer some advise on this?

Hi,Dean.

Although mine is a rav4 it has the 2 litre vvt engine and the only plugs recommended are the iridiums.

If you are not familier with these take one of the old plugs out and if they are iridiums the have a needle like centre electrode.

I believe the other plugs if fitted instead of iridiums can affect the running of the engine

Don't know where you have found your prices but these can be found for about £30 a set

Thanks Del,

I will take the plug out before and check before purchasing.

An alternative is to go to Toyota, quote your chasis number and get the correct Denso plugs, you might find they are Iridium only (cost approx £50 for four but will last 60,000 miles). I have just done mine and they were in for five years.

Plugs and air filter changed. Car still hesitating :-(

I am now thinking Mass air regulator....? Not too sure of its name to be honest.

hi all i was interested in reading this post as i only have standard plugs in my avensis would upgrading to the Iridium plugs be worth the money or are they suppose on the car already and would they improve fuel consumption thanks

As I understand it the standard fitment is Iridium.

Changing the plugs may improve the consumption a little, maybe an mpg or two but not much. Recently I used the wrong plugs and this caused the combustion to run hotter. Changing back to correct plugs increased economy by about 1mpg (I think) on overall mpg - so plugs will affect efficiency to a degree.

A recent oil change to thinner but still to Toyota reccommended grade helped me more than the plug change - about 2-3mpg.
