R Reg 1997 Toyota Rav 4 Gx Jumping Out Of 5Th Gear

Hi

I Test drove a very clean Rav 4 today that had done 130k miles

Everything felt great until i took it out on a faster road and tried to change it into 5th gear.

it immeaditely jumped out of 5th gear, repeated attempts produced the same result.

I find this puzzling as the gearbox felt really tight and had no whining or crunching of any type.

I could hold it in without a problem but as soon as i let it go it popped out.

I have read from various articles that it could either be a worn gearbox of components that are in the actual gear selector.

Anyone who could give advice on this would be helping me out a lot as I am looking to buy this car if it is a resonably cheap fix.

Many Thanks

Casey

  • 1 month later...

hi all,

i have been researching this topic as my Rav (circa 97) jumps out of 5th gear.

i found Hardcores posts on R4W and am comfortable that i know what needs to be done. However i cannot find a uk supplier of the parts. My car is not in the UK so the reg number would not help, and following hardcores notes I prefer to order by the part nos he listed. as other people seem to have had other parts suppplied when giving the vehicle vin no.

please can anyone advise me where I can order the parts by part no?

many thanks in anticipation
