Heavy Power Steering

I'm very happy with my 2008 Avensis 2ltr D4D TR hatchback.

However, compared to other cars I have driven, the power steering seems heavy.

I have asked the dealer and they say "They are just like that - especially diesels".

Is that the case? Is it because of the extra weight of the engine? Size of tyres?

There doesn't seem to be a problem as such, just that the steering is heavy when compared with other makes of car.

Does anybody know if this is correct or if there is anything that can be done about it?

Thanks.

The best way of checking would be to drive a similar car to compare it against yours. Though diesel engines are heavier it shouldn't affect power steering.

if it is OK mechanically, you could put more air pressure in the front tyres a few PSI would improve the weight.
