If anyone is interested I have two spare cam covers for sale. 5E-FHE/5E-FE and presumably 4E-FE as well.

Ideal if someone wants to polish or paint one but doesn't want to take the car off the road whilst they do it.

Is it the same as the 4ETFE mate or not?

I think 4E-FTE has an extra breather

Look lads, if you need convincing why you would need a spare cam cover, take a look at mine thats waiting to be fitted, when I get a spare minute. Polishing by me, powder coating by my mate Ed and cover courtesy of toyotasera.co.uk. Hope this helps Andrew

Used Autoglym metal polish and fine wet and dry, then polish with a kitchen scourer (you know, nylon one side sponge the other) then finished it off with polish and soft cloth. Masked it all off then gave it to my mate for powder coating :P

And no I don't wanna sell it ;)

There's a pic of the engine in my garage, not very good un though was bit of a rush job ;)

Only took a couple of hours at most to clean and polish, masked off the underside and Toyota Badge that took half hour then dropped it off a mates house and he powder coated it at work the next day

Trouble is now thats done I seriously need to look at tidying the rest of the bay ;)

I received my new/old rocker cover today - Thanks Andrew !

In the middle of cleaning it up (in the lounge) and I've got a question.

Does the red 90 degree valve thing (technical description) come off? If so HOW?

It's a separate part according to the parts CD.

It'll just pull out, you might not think so cos the seals harden, but it will. Get a new seal from Toyota they're only coppers (bout 2 quid) and will stop any oil patches on your new cover

The seals harden??????

The seals harden??????

No S**t. It was like hard plastic. The red valve came out in a dozen pieces, then I had to chop the seal up with a stanley knife to get it out.

I've just ordered the new parts from Mr T. so I'll get them later in the week. Gives me a bit more time to polish it some more. (I'm SURE I can get it shinier ! :D )

Just a bit of an update for you.

Polished the new rocker cover but did the horizontal stripes as well.

Masked it off and painted it with Black Lacquer.

Took off the tape and was horrified :arrgg-matey:

It looked really bad ! the contrast between the black and the silver just looked cheap and tacky to me....Back to the drawing board.

Took it into work and sandblasted it all clean again. Looked good in the pale grey raw satin aluminiummy colour. Tried a bit of autoglym on it (just on a cloth, no flatting) and it's turned into a sort of Mid Satin Grey colour. Very uniform finish, very smart indeed. Then I polished a stripe back to mirror finish. There isn't as much contrast between the mirror finish and the body of the cover now.

AND IT LOOKS BRILLIANT.

I'll polish the rest up and post a pic when it's done.

(Thanks DazH........Missing even more good weather now) :P

I found a grommet and PCV valve at a local auto parts store.

Didnt even have to go through Toyota.

Finished........what do you reckon?
