Interior Noise

Had a 58 RAV4 for just over a month, it has developed a placticy clicking sound near (i guess from driving the RAV) the lower glovebox, like plastic flaps opening and closing, It is random and not linked to speed/direction/terraine. It is beginning to annoy me, but wife in passenger seat cannot hear it, am i imagining it ?

Under the glovebox there is a loose plastic panel which i have put felt to stop it moving but it is not the solution, could it be linked to the cool box ? any suggestions gratefully received

May sound daft but check the sun visors are fully clicked into their keepers..............

You could drop the lower glovebox [see pinned section on how to change pollen filter for instructions]

The glovebox damper may have become detached.

Yeah, either a dicky hip or she could be 'tut-tutting' in response to your driving...................

Last one we had was a leaf in the heater. Remove the cabin filter and fish it out.

thanks , found a leaf and the glovebox damper is attached, there does not seem to be any thing loose.

Do you have automatic air-conditioning with automatic air recirculation?

You saying it still does it?

Does it do it with the heater off?

Does it do it with the glove box open?

still got the noise

tried with the glove box open, thought that was the answer but it came back.

Got the car in May and there was no need for heating/air con and no noise, since using both it seems to be the cause.

Automatic air conditioning judging by the manual. It does sound like a flap or 2 bits of plastic clicking together on the passenger side.

It could be the air blend door or diverter door. These are plastic flaps controlled by servo motors in the HVAC unit. My automatic system will occasionally switch on its own from fresh air to recirculate unless I override it manually. On another vehicle I owned, the limit switch for one of these doors failed and the motor continued to drive after the door was closed. This resulted in a rhythmic clicking sound until it timed out and the motor stopped.

Just come back from trip to Derbyshire from London, noise seems to be possibly coming from the area around the vent above the upper vent, if it is the air blend/diverter door, what can be done ?

i meant the vent above the upper glovebox, again the passenger was no use
