Hi Floks,

I'm new to this forum & blogging, so be gentle.

We recently acquired (< 1000 miles done by 'er indoors) above, from family member. Yaris 1.3 has covered 11000 miles from new.

Earlier today the orange engine block light came on. Car appears to be running fine. car was MTD serviced for 1st 3 years & by local trusted garage.

Any ideas why engine light would be illuminated?

Best regards,

Brian

Hi Brian and welcolme to the forum.

The engine management light can come on for numerous faults but the most common/likely would be a dirty/faulty MAF sensor, this would be my first port of call ( a relatively simple job to clean or replace) There is a guide somewhere on this forum. Another common problem would be the oxygen sensor but be warned there are 2 of these pre and post cat . Also a likely cause would be a 'blowing' exhaust fooling the oxygen sensors into thinking that the fuel/air ratios are wrong!

Hope that helps somewhat.

EDIT:

I forgot to mention get it plugged into a fault code reader and take it from there.

If you don't have one and don't want to pay a garage there is a thread at the top of the General Discussions section called "Members With Obdii/obd2 Code Readers". If you can find one in there who lives near to you they may come and read it out for you.
