Petrol In My Rav

My wife has put petrol into my 2011 diesel rav. Realising what she had done the engine was never started. Toyota assistance arranged a pickup and took the car to the nearest Toyota dealer. The dealer says as the car was never started they will drain the tank and flush it before putting fresh diesel in and all will be ok. Will this affect the warranty on the car?

Ooooooooops!

I'm guessing here but, so long as the car wasn't started and the tank is drained and re-filled by your dealer I can't see there being a problem.

How many folk do this and the manufacturers never know?

It rarely causes a problem as diesels will run with a small percentage of petrol in. Even with your piezo injectors I doubt there will be any lasting effect especially as it hasn't been started.

She's not the first and she won't be the last.

I don't suppose it will make you feel any better but been there done that and felt very very silly! Well done her for not starting up.

There are a number of devices to prevent misfueling when filling a diesel.

See link below.

When I was in France a couple of years ago I pulled into motorway service station to fill up as the tank was 1/4 full.

I put in about 9 Lt's of petrol before I noticed what I had done. Well to cut a long storey short a guy in the station said

fill the rest up to the brim with diesel and drive it and when it drops to 3/4s full fill up again. I did this and had no problems

at all. I was all so pulling a caravan and didn't notice any difference to power.

Probably would have been a different storey if I had filled it to the brim with petrol.
