T-sport Power Output

Hi there. This is my first post on this forum. I am from South Africa and own a Toyota RunX RSi (T-Sport). I post regularly on our local site: http://www.tolken.co.za/twincamforum

South African owners are concerned that the power output on the SA spec cars are not 141kW. Have any UK owners dynoed their cars. What power are you getting at your wheels? Is this at altitude, or at sea level?

Here I am :D

I've got 142kw at the engine and 129kw at the wheels

Two other TS were tested and they've got also 142kw.

So in Germany we can't say we're underpowered

Hi there. Thanks, we do enjoy the forum.

With respect to the "sea level v altitude" thing, you lose up to 26% of your power (the norm is 17% but high compression engines lose even more) if you are inland (such as Johannesburg) v the coast (such as Cape Town). This is attriibutable to the fact that atmospheric pressure in higher at sea level as compared to higher up. As a result there is more oxygen in the air at the coast, therefore better combustion, which equals more horsepower. ;)

The average T-Sport gets around 117kw at the wheels in SA (at sea level). As you can see, its hugely detuned. We're currently talking to Toyota SA to give us our missing kilowatts. :ffs:

you gotta consider than it does depend on the dyno you used as well, I hope it was some professional dyno place... and different dyno machines (brands) can give you up to 30hp different reading at the wheels with same car in exactly the same location...
