Bulletproof My ****!

My 56 reg, 123,000 mile Avensis 2.0D suddenly displayed all the terrifying signs of impending head gasket failure. Spots of coolant stains on the engine cover, coolant level dropping like a stone, strange goings on with the heater too. Many thanks to this excellent forum for training me in the warning signs! I know that Mr Toyota would tell me to get lost because it has not been serviced by him so last week I traded it in at the car supermarket that sold it to me eighteen months ago. I haven't bought another Toyota so this is farewell and many thanks to everyone from me. I'm really disappointed in the Avensis, my old 2001 Passat diesel was still going like a train at 235k miles when I ditched that. 123k should be nothing to a car like this.

And I now feel able to admit that it is one of the ugliest cars ever created, sorry if you're driving one still but people in other cars DO feel sorry for you in that brick. Thanks everyone!

Cheers for the feedback. But must ask why you bought it in the first place!

who said that they were?

& the engine in a 2001 Avensis diesel would still be going strong too like your VW - more modern diesels are more complicated with higher pressures & extra emissions equipment & as such are less reliable than the older, simpler ones.

I thought if anything might last me a few years it would be a Toyota diesel. Don't know if anything is bulletproof anymore. BMW diesels lose the turbo regularly, the newer VW 2litre diesel isn't a patch on the old 1.9 in terms of reliability. Honda and Mazda diesels are not very fuel-efficient.

I'm really gone this time, cheers all!

Bit late to say now I know, but as long as the car had service history with a recognised garage you would have got the job done free, shame.

Anyone know how to remove a duplicate post?.

Not true, I'm afraid Revband. See the Head Gasket thread that's on here now, lots of people having pleas rejected. I had called Toyota but when I described the service history they were unmoved.
