I really want to do it - but im lacking a decent sized garage atm. But i am in talks with someone about buying one thats not far from my house so thats ok.

What I am thinking is: is sinking 5-6k into a car thats only worth 1k abit silly? Even with it being 4x4 and 2.0 turbo it still wouldnt have a great resale on it as it seams corollas are just not sought after in this country. I have to get a derv for a daily soon as im simply doing too many miles to use a petrol car, and if it was my weekend toy id want something that would hold its value. Dont get me wrong i absolutely love the SR but its never going to be worth much. If i broke mine id see over 2k easily just from the parts i have on it.

Ive been dying to get my hands on an escort cosworth since i watched them at the gb rally when i was 7 years old. Thats my dream car along with the 3dr sierra cosworth. Im at the age where insurance is no longer silly prices, i have full ncb and have a bit on money spare to throw at a weekend toy.

The SRs taxed for another 8months and MOTd for another 12 so im going to think long and hard come tax renewal if its something i want to sink loads of money into or to quit while im ahead and return the car to standard and sell the rest on...

Its deffo something that you got to think long and hard about for sure!

Right an update....fitted the avensis inlet manifold, kept its original throttle pulley too. in the end there wasn't an extra pipe it was just located in a different are from the corolla.

came across a few issues tho.

Had to use the speedo cable bracket from the corolla, and may need some other tubing although it is all seated well...except like a fool i used I didnt think of the intake pipe from air box to throttle body.

I will need one of these as my god the size difference is a lot!

Came across a pretty dangerous problem though. Got it running it idled high took it out for a good spin, checked it out at the petrol station all looked well, filled it up took it for another good spin, idle was back down to normal. Just about to head home from my mates .....hmm can you smell fuel....yeah pop the bonnet.

Fuel ****** out of the injector!

Again like a idiot i didnt buy new o ring seals. This time it wasn't seated properly but all other times trying to fix it we kept splitting the seals.

Now im not sure if it was just us being heavy handed or if I was using the corolla fuel rail with the avensis injectors was causing a problem.

In the end we ran out of seals....I was 25 miles from home lol

But my mate ( I really do owe him) he is a bad man, just the other day he had replaced some on a set of big brakes. We took them apart and they looked almost perfect.

tried it and all was well.

Drove home checked it, no fuel leaks. But I have not risked it coming to work in it just in case.

Soooooo now i know its not leaking fuel but do I get a avensis fuel rail or go ahead and buy some new seals and pop all new seals on.

Also does this mean I need to get them from Toyota.

Btw there was a difference I felt straight away!

Hi guys!

I'm so excited about this thread!

I got a Corolla G6 from 2000 with the 3zz-fe, and i have been wondering for years about converting it to 1zz-fe for more power.

I have read the whole thread and are really excited about doing this!

So i ask of you; please make a "shopping list" of parts that are needed. That would be very helpfull.

Thanks so far!

Greetings from a corolla enthusiast from Denmark!

The engine light is now on. ....would it come on if thers a air leak.

Everything has been fine till just now. Hmmm.

Posted

What code has it brought up?

I dont use any sort or sealer or grease on the o rings, but i make sure that there incerted completey square to aviod damage.

Ive thought bugger it and ordered a complete manifold for mine too.

Posted

Whers the code displayed dude ... clock. Yup do it man!!

Posted

Guess you havent got a code reader that goes into the OBD11 port? There is a way to get it to flash up the code normally by shorting two pins but i dont know which ones sorry.

Ye i bought a full set of a celica being broken on eBay today so it should be here for the weekend. The results worth it?

Posted

Would any code reader do? Or corolla reader only.

Sweeeet yea feels much lighter feels likes its now getting enough into it. Reacts much better.

Think its made it pop more too lol.

Posted

Ye ive got a D900 of eBay. Cheep chear full and good at what it does!

Gdgd mine feels as if its strangled at top end so looking forward to seeing what it does

Right got a mates reader and this is the code.

P0172 System Too Rich (Bank 1)

Could well be a leak in the air intake pipe that iv had to split on both ends to make it wide enough so it fits!!!

Got rid of it on the dash but have a feeling it will come back untill i sort this intake pipe.

Might drop some injector cleaner in too.

I think its deffo runnibg rich though lol.

Dude ul deffo be happy because mine felt a bit dull too but now its so much more responsive.

Its like its freed up.

Swop injector 1 for number 4 mate.

Basically thats telling u your running rich on bank one, which is over fueling. Injectors are easily damaged so it could be leaking fuel or have the wrong spray pattern. So id swop that injetor to cylinder 4 to see if it changes the fault code to bank 4. If it does that will be your problem ;)

If the airpipe was letting air in the car would be jerky as its having unmetered air enter the engine which would cause it to go lean. The ecu should be programmed to dump loads of petrol in to stop detonation in the situe so it can be that too. But this would happen over the 4 cylinders

Posted

But doesn't bank refer to v engines as in which bank of the v. So there for a straight meaning its across all 4 cylinders?

Is the d900 pretty good then. Doest it tell u more info? And does it reset the fault.

Posted

Some refer to it as a bank like youve just said, though i have used a couple that say bank 1/2/3/4 as in cylinder. Depends on the unit.

Yes the D900s very good for the price. It cant do abs nor srs systems but those that do that are very expensive anyway. I have access to a snap on ethos and tbh i use the D900 more. Its always to hand and it does everything i need generally. Give a good description and does the live read outs too

Sort out the induction pipe to see if its that forst and try swoping the injectors if it doesnt. There has been cases of 1zz injectors throwing up fault codes before but in a small number. EXS has no code come up. Are you running the standard airbox?

Right fair play on the bank issue.

Iv ordered some spare injectors just incase.

Im running standard box yes but now im not sure what intake pipe to replace my standard one with. Any ideas.

I cleared the error. Seems to have not come back but if i do get the error do all what you have advised, will the error go or will i have to clear it then see if it comes back.

Think i will deffo get a D900

Id recomend it, its A very handy bit of kit to have! Yes youll have to clear it again if it come on

Right ive ordered the celica throttle body to induction box pipe with my 1zz lot. Im hoping that it fits as looks simular (read its prob completely different) - it may be here tomorrow most deffo by the weekend. If it doesnt fit ill give a 1zz corolla E12 one a try and prob snap up the air box of one too as the pipe out of the box is bigger. So read that as waste more money on junk that will just sit in the garage as it doesnt fit

Sweet will get one of them readers.

Ahh ok yea well let me know as il be going to my local scrap this weekend might find something suitable to fit onto the intake.

Thing is, if it is not over fueling (which i reken it is) and the light hasnt come on again does that mean all is well.?

Lol unsusable non fitting parts galore in my garage lol.

Btw corolla now picks up really well. This mod is something most should do!

Posted

Um the light will come on in a period of 100 miles or so, so it could come back on again.

Mines turned up today, going to do a guide for other members to follow.

Celica pipe looks like its going to be a tight squeeze but will do the job. might need a slight reducer but think ill get away without one. I tried fitting it to the 3zz manifold and it would go but is at the wrong angle as, as you know, the 1zz throttle body sits at a completely different angle to the 3zz one.

Ill let you know more on sunday when i attack fitting it. It needs a complete strip down and a damn good clean!

Ps. How the f... Did you get the standard corolla air box to throttle body pipe to fit the 1zz throttle body? I had a go (while assessing wether the celica pipe would fit) and gave up LOL

Posted

Sweet good update that.

Hmm so you reken celica intake is the one to use.

Dude how did i fit the 3ZZ intake pipe....well. i put it into boiling water for a bit. Then swapped it around so original airbox part was now on the throttle body end.

Had to cut to slits in each end. Got the throttle end on and secured it tight.

Then got washing up liqued on the airbox end forced it on n secured it.......thats why i think its leaking lol.

Lol exactly, but saying that the check engine light has remained off abd iv done over 200 miles.

Right ok cool let us know your progress. Il post some pics of my intake manifold looks a bit diff to the celica one

Ok mate. The 3zz one and the 1zz ones are photoed above.

Good news about the check light. Prob sealed itself enough. You damn pikey :P

Haha bodge is my middle name! Well i had no choice i had to get home!!

Ok so here is the avensis 1zz manifold with injectors fitted.

20120908_124210.jpg

The injector rail is exactly the same part number as 3zz so i left that in.

As you can see below im using the avensis throttle pulley. The reason for this was that the bolt was too big to attach the corolla one.

20120908_124152.jpg

Also as i mentioned in an earlier post i kept the original cable bracket as the rubber grommet that the cable bolts onto would not fit on the avensis bracket.

20120908_124156.jpg

'Pikey' style 3zz inlet pipe attached to 1zz throt body.

20120908_124204.jpg

Its a tight fit to get the manifold on, so had to remove the big coolent pipe. This also was sat on a bracket that i havnt re attached.
