Headlight Deflectors?

Looking for a solution for my Gen 2 09 Prius- I've searched the forum, but can't find anything relevant.

I've just acquired my Prius, and am superbly pleased with it. I'm now looking for a good headlamp deflection solution for when I take the car abroad. I used to be a Picasso owner, and Citroen made plastic headlamp protectors with black masks scientifically positioned to deflect the beams. The advantage was they could be demounted with one screw each side.

Does Toyota make anything similar for the Gen 2? I don't fancy sticking those awful aftermarket things on. It takes ages to get the acrylic glue off.

Not that I have ever come across. The cut to size stick on ones are the ones to use. I got mine from Halfords.

To remove the clue I used neat windscreen wash and dabbed the glue gentley. It came off a treat after about 5 mins each light but be very gentle as the lense WILL scratch very easily.

Have a search on the web for Eurolite beam converter products.

They are aftermarket stick on.

To remove any glue residue, baby oil and a cotton wool ball is pretty good.

I used to get mine from Halfords too - but found out this year that they're half the price on Amazon. Still a bit irritating to have to buy them and then scrape them off...

Lots of misinformation this year about the need to carry breathalysers in France. They're legally required from 01/07, but the gendarmes can't fine anyone until 01/11 for not having them in their car. Just as well, as they've run out of them in France!

FWIW I spend six months each year in France and have never been questioned about not having headlamp deflectors, but don't blame me if you are the one they decide to make an example of. I don't drive much at night and when I do I just set the dipped beam as low as possible to avoid glare for other road users .

BTW have you ever seen a foreign car in the UK with them?

Dead right.

Technically you must always have one in the car so need to buy two so that you still have one if one has been used. The only ones I've seen were brought in by a friend who bought them in Halfords. Haven't seen any at all in French shops. If you buy in the UK make sure it has the NF mark showing it is to French standards and if possible buy one that has the description in French.

I use to use soft black electrical insulating tape to mask out the beam for France. Just got to experiment to see which triange/square bit of the lens needs to be covered. Peels off easy and costs 2 pence.

That is basically all the Citroen deflectors were. Their polycarbonate headlight protectors were perfectly moulded, and had white registration markings printed on to allow you to apply two carefully shaped black stickers in the right place for deflection. When you had finished driving in Foreign, all you had to do was unscrew the headlamp protectors ready for next time. I'm surprised that Toyota don't seem to make similar headlamp protectors.
