They like to change only one letter i.e., from dollar sign to pound sign which is easier than changing all the digits in the price tag from US.

I guess mose of the products in UK are like this. iPhone ipads, they just change the pound symbol.

"Why is it so expensive in the UK?" comes to mind! ;-)

Nah, it's simpler than that. They're ripping us off on the price of the Plug In.

See my other post about a week ago where I broke down the US prices. The UK standard Prius is virtually the same price as the US version once import duty and 20% vat are added. The Plug In is about £6,000 more expensive. Proof that they're ripping us off. Simple as.

Might be hard to get anyway.

I was at the local dealer yesterday getting my Gen 2 serviced, and we got to talking about the plug in. He said they'd had 22 firm enquiries, but Toyota have allocated them just three cars this year, so they are simply telling people to go away and find another dealer to see if they have more luck.

I had an interesting conversation with my local dealer yesterday, who rang to ask me whether I wanted a test drive. I said no, because I certainly wasn't going to buy one while the price was so high. He tried to persuade me that the price difference between the Plug-in and and the standard T-Spirit was "only" about £2,000, whereas I saw it as nearer to £8,000. He commented that the the government grant would bring the price down and I commented that the grant was supposed to help me, not just increase the money that Toyota would receive for the car. He insisted that I should look only at what I had to pay and I insisted that Toyota need to justify their income of close to £8,000 more for the Plug-in.

We agreed to differ.
