Avensis 53 Plate Auto Box Problem

Good evening all, first post so please be kind!.I have 53 plate Avensis 1.8vvti with the 4 speed auto/sequential gearbox.car was driven yesterday and all was well.

car was started this morning and reverse selected, reverse shown on dash, however there is no drive, its as if the box is in neutral.

the car will move forward in "drive" but only 1st and 2nd gears, when the box decides to shift to 3rd the engine revs like its in neutral.at this point if you knock the gear lever across to sequential then 3rd will be engaged, however when 4th is tried then the engine again revs like its in neutral.

have checked the transmission fluid and all seems well, its still a reddish colour and at the correct mark on the dipstick when the engine is hot.

also when the box changes from 1st to 2nd the box will hold first to approx 5000rpm,then change, usually on light throttle the box would change up at approx 2000rpm.

any thoughts/help would be much appreciated, thanks for reading!

This is a different autobox to mine but my shifting problems (now solved) were similar. From your description you don't mention warning lights though there may be a fault code if you get a garage (better if Toyota dealer as their kit may find additional codes which generic testers might not). The issue seems in some way similar to the issue with my car, a failure to shift up. This transpired as one of the vacuum valves which I understand control the shifting. I hope this is of some help.
