Newbie Looking At Buying 1St Gen 1977 1600Gt

Hi all,

I've just signed up to the forum as I need a little help and advice.

I'm looking to buy a reasonably sorted/good condition 1st Gen Celica 1600GT or 2000GT and firstly wondered if anyone can give any buyers advice? I understand the mechanics of these cars is very good but let down by poor quality steel (as with many old cars) so rust is a major problem, anything else I should look out for, or can anyone tell me the main rust problem areas?

I have also had problems finding places that do parts, I'm not overly bothered about whether they are reproduction parts or originals, so can anyone advise me on where I can get replacement parts if there are any available off the shelf.

Many thanks, and sorry for all the questions.

Dear Mods,

I’ve just realised there’s also a classic Toyota forum whilst searching your excellent website. Can you link this topic in the Classic section as well as the Celica section, or move this over if you think that’s better.

Thank you.

Hi Robson,

Do you have a car in mind that you are viewing, or haven't you found one yet? What's your budget? Send me a PM if you wish... I may be able to help?
