Which Model Is Best For Ipod Integration?

I’m considering buying an Avensis (up to about 2.5 years old) and in fact my need is urgent as my old Rover is beyond economical repair...so I am out shopping this weekend!

I am almost certain to go for a T4 or T Spirit (if I understand the range correctly) because I want leather. (It will also be an auto diesel).

Because I’m in my car a lot, the audio is important to me. I fitted an Alpine in my old Rover which had full iPod control with a large circular knob allowing me to speedily scroll and select from menus just as you would on an iPod itself. Brilliant.

So, iPod integration is absolutely essential to me. However I am confused by the range of units available in the Avensis and cannot find a single source of information. I have seen the hard drive based systems but they seem a little clumsy in the way you have to copy from CDs (all my music is on a PC so it’s not realistic).

In short, do any Avensis models offer such comprehensive integration of an iPod? I’m not talking about selecting playlists – I mean proper menu navigation.

If not, then I am happy to rip out what is there and replace with an Alpine or similar...if this is possible. However, if I do this, will I lose control of other aspects of the car? For example, is the display used to control heating etc?

The navi sytems in the T27 (pre facelift at least) is not connected to the car in any serious manner, so if you want excellent sound and connectability...go aftermarket... That is the ONLY way :)

I've got a 2010 model, and have exchanged the not-especially-good (to be polite) headunit with a Clarion NX502E navi headunit. Just be sure to buy a steeringwheel interface that does support the use of the phone buttons ;)
