Trouble Starting In The Morning

Hi I'm having trouble starting my Avensis T3-X D4D 2006 in the mornings. Once it starts it's fine. There has been some white smoke from the exhaust. I've had the Battery checked and that's all fine. It's been suggested that I might need a new valve connected to the fuel pump but this will cost £300 and they don't know whether this will solve it. Has anyone got any ideas as to what could be wrong?
