Making The Driver's Seat Go Further Back.

I have just bought a generation two Prius and I love it. Why didn't I get rid of my Avensis before it started using oil? Anyway, the only thing I need is to push the driver's seat back further than it will go. I have seen some seat extenders on some US websites at a very high price. Are there any for sale in UK? I can see none on Google or eBay.

Also does anyone know if I order a passenger side set of brackets from America they will fit the driver's side here? Are the holes in the right place etc?

Anybody done it? Advice?

Just out of curiosity, why do you need it? Are you 7 foot or something?

If you haven't already check out this website

As you can see the runners are different for both passenger and driver. Ive never seen them for sale in the UK.

I considered them when I first got the car as I also find the seat does not go far enough back for my liking and Im only 6'4". Unfortunately my wife is much smaller than me and I think it would be a problem if the seats starting position was 4" further back. Ive managed to get used to the driving position but its still not great for me.

I also agree the passengerside would benefit as well and I am still tempted to fit an extender there as I can't get comfy as a front seat passenger on long journeys, I find my knees are cramped by the dash and I end up sitting at an angle to gain as mch room as possible. To be honest its the one let down for me of the car. As a passenger I actually prefer to sit in the rear seat behind my wife and leave my wife and daughter to the front.

I can get better legroom in front seats of several smaller car models.

Wow, I'm tall and end up too close to the dash on my gen2, I just wish the steering wheel adjusted for reach! I am tempted to try and remove the 'clutch' foot rest block to give a bit more room! Shame the gen3 doesn't have much reach adjustment. (I wonder if the new Auris or Yaris Hybrids will be better in this regard!)

Thanks for the three replies. Actually, I am only 5 foot 10 inches tall but I only really feel comfortable driving if my legs are nearly fully extended. It was no problem in my old 1997 Carina (174 000 miles of true comfort) or my 2002 Avensis (140 000 miles). The Prius is not bad if I put the seat as low as possible and allow my legs to bend or go to the side a bit. I am getting used to it but like one of you, I am still tempted to extend. (An Auris has plenty of room by the way, I tried one when looking for the Prius.)

The trouble is that they want 199 dollars plus 65 dollars postage for just one set of brackets for the driver's side. I only need about two inches more room, so that is over 100 dollars per inch! Expensive. They know that we find it frustrating.

They look very simple things on the pictures. I am wondering if I can find somebody to make some if I measure up where the holes are. Any ideas? Anybody know a good blacksmith?

Otherwise I think the car is fantastic. It takes a bit of getting used to the footbrake, various knobs in different positions but it is a good ride. Of course the petrol consumption is the big joy. I found that on a long journey up the A1 if I set the cruise control to 64 mph I got 64 mpg. That will do.
