Rear Brakes

Away in Scotland at present. Noticed when the car is moving backwards the rear brakes emit a loud groaning sound. Happens only when the brakes are applied. Before I book it in, any ideas what could be the issue?

Moving backwards when your brakes are applied will make them groan. I think you have not phrased the question very well.

OK - how else do you bring the car to a stop?

When the car is moving backwards, whether in gear or not, and the brakes are applied, I get a loud groaning sound from the brakes.

See what you mean now, mine just squeak when driving forward and only the nearside rear, guess it's time for a caliper clean up.
