Camry Noise

I am new to this Board and have a 99 Camry with 48K miles that is making a whiring-grinding-cavatating noise that is noticeable a low RPM and increases slightly as the RPM goes up. I suspect that it may be the water pump. Is there any way to tell if it is in fact the water pump. Thanks Mark S.

try running the engine with the drivebelt off (not really recommended tho as you will probably have to run with the alternator unhooked as well)

If there is any play in the bearing it would be apparent withe the drivebelt removed anyway!

My 94 carinaE has a noisy bearing on the power-steering - I regularly have to oil it which seems to quieten it for 500 miles or so - could this be the source of the problem?

Water pump bearings should last at least 100k miles so I wouldn't think it'd be the problem
