2004 T4 Avensis Chugging And Losing Power While Driving

I have an Avensis T4 that has recently starting chugging while I am driving along or when I drop gears and try to regain speed it just loses power. I have had brakes checked, egr valve replaced, cataylatic converter removed and cleaned and the accelerater pedal replaced all to no avail. The car still chuggs and loses power. If I stop and turn the car off for 5 minutes I can then start up again and continue my journey until it all starts again. Has anyone any idea what the problem is any advice would be greatly appreciated. i have stopped driving the car as I do not feel safe in it anymore.

Diesels don't have coil packs, are you sure enough fuel is getting through??

How do I know if enough fuel is getting through, sorry I don't know anything about cars and my mechanic is running out of ideas. the fuel filter has been replaced.

hi matey

do not be in panic, but check with:

- fuel filter condition (if you say 5 mins waiting -- this might mean the filter may be clogged giving no sufficient diesel quantity)

- your 2nd step is to have an air escaped from the fuel system thru special screw on the filter lid;

- 3rd step is to measure both SCV control solenoids and compare R with manual. even minor deviation brings you the problem in question.
