Avensis D4D Making Clicking And Cracking When Pulling Off!

Can anyone give me advice/help

When I move off in my Avensis it makes nasty clicking/Cracking noise, I have taken it to the garage and mechanic thinks its is the transmission, as he said there is lack of resistance from the front wheels when it is jacked up and free-wheeled, and there should be??

If it was gearbox related, wouldn't I have gear problems, grinding, noisy?

Other thing I thought might be either the flywheel, clutch, or any mounts?

My car is a 2005 Avensis D4d with 130,000 on the clock

Well that's a nice vague diagnosis. Off to a Toyota specialist or dealer for a proper diagnosis I reckon.

  • 1 month later...

Seem to of fixed this problem with the horrible clicking noise, after changing gearbox oil...weirdly enough.

But have seriously worn gearbox ive been told, happened to off popped out of fifth gear as-well other week, hasn't done it since.

Been told the gearboxes in these cars sturdy as one thought.

Well i am sure Dan Jardine feels a lot better now after reading the above post.

Toyota manuel gearboxes are a bit fussy so it seems on having the correct oil. SAE 75W is the one to use.
