Whoops! What A Timely Appearance

Ever since I was a kid, I've always been fascinated by crypto zoology.

You know the field I'm talking about -- the search for mythical animals that have been dismissed as fictitious but yet might actually exist in real life.

Ever heard of the Megaladon?

That was the prehistoric shark that was the size of a double decker bus and remains the most ferocious predator ever to stalk the oceans. It's extinct now -- or is it?

After all, there have been numerous unconfirmed sightings, most recently last century in deep water off Australia, and there is a school of thought that they could still exist in deep marine trenches.

Likewise, the Yeti and Sasquatch.

Do these creatures actually exist? Are they some sort of evolutionary missing link that might provide vital clues as to where we came from and, indeed, where we might be going?

But it looks like you won't have to go to Canada or Mongolia to see one of the elusive beasts.

No, instead you can head off to . . . Co Laois. Or Stradbally to be more precise.

Reports came out yesterday that a young couple had to flee the tent they were camping in when they heard strange noises and according to one witness: "It was seven or eight feet tall and standing upright on two legs."

It's now being referred to as the 'Sasquatch of Stradbally' which is a phrase I can honestly admit I thought I'd never, ever see myself typing.

Hmm, I wonder how true it is, however.

In an entirely unrelated note, this weekend sees the Electric Picnic take place in Stradbally.
