Camry Sv21 Auto

Car: SV21 Camry Auto

Problem: Lack of power from stationary. Once moving, power is fine.

I have replaced all vacuum hoses, checked throttle position sensor, replaced air filter and engine check codes are fine.

From stationary, even with the accelerator fully depressed, engine rev slowly increases. There is definately something wrong as acceleration was much better before. No power problems once the car is running above 60 kph.

Anyone have any ideas where I can start investigating?

Much appreciated

How many miles has it done !!!!

It would probally benefit from a Transmission Oil change - if the oil smells burnt when you drain it out,you could have problems with the Internal clutch or brake bands,or a problem with the Stator in the Torque Convertor.

Might be worth while when you have drained the oil,to drop the sump pan down and clean the pick-up screen filter, and there is usually a small magnet in the bottom of the sump pan to pick up any metallic debris if you have an Internal fault.

Mick,

Thanks, I will change the transmission fluid to see if it helps. If there is a problem with the torque converter, then wouldn't I experience problems regardless of speed? When the car is moving and I depress the accelerator, the transmission kicks down fine and power is good. It's only when the car accelerates from stop ;)

Does the torque convertor lock up in both D and OD? Would a locked torque convertor cause symptoms that I am currently experiencing?

Also why is overfilling the transmission a problem?
