Horrible Clancking Noise From Tne Engine (2ct)

Hi everyone!!!

Well, I have some info that might be usefull sometime to you guys about a failure that happend to my Corona.

Suddenly last week, the engine started to make a clapping noise when ascelerating, seemed to be a broken valve spring or some related to that area. OK, I said, took the 12mm tool and hands to work in order to find out what was going on and to fix it.

I couldnt find anything, but the horrible breaking clapping noise from the inside of the engine.

I dedided to take her to the dealer service to have it repaired for good and by expert hands. After two days of no notice from them, they called me to tell me what they had found.

They'd found that the timing belt was stretched. ( the car has 83K Km, and the manual says change every 100K, strange...). So this caused to vary the timing of the valves, making them to hit slightly the piston head when asceletate. There the clapping noise like having something broken inside.

They replaced the timing belt and all other belts as they had to remove them also. The complete job will cost me around 500 $, sort of 100 £

Hope this info helps in the future

Cheers

Yeap!

I have the bad habit of hearing the engine all the time and to pay attention to every single noise down there. So luckly I could hear it 10 seconds after it started.

Yesterday I got her back, and it's reaaaaaally amazing the quiet the engine is now. They also replaced the temperature sensor (faulty) and the complete coolant. I can say that the dealer provided a very good service, they also offered to me the garage and the machines if I ever want to check anything with no charge at all

Well, my soul came back to my body....

Cheers

Sorry to hi-jack this thread but my rolla's just had a 60K (miles) service and they replaced the cam-belt (timing belt). Now just before the service i developed a slow oil leak (which is getting sorted now) but the engine almost fully ran out of oil at one point! After the service i noticed that my tappets were alot more noisy than they used to be (they are hitting the top of the head) now is it more likely that this was caused by the lack of oil for the short period when it almost ran out, or could it be that the new cam-belt is the wrong length?

Cheers

If the belt isn't the same, the car surelly won't idle or ascelerate either.

Could be because of the lack of oil, but I guess its more likely the valve clearance. Have U have it checked?

. Also check the oil pump, cause if it is not pumping, the valves will not receive oil and will be noisy.

But if you say that they are hitting the head, SHOULDN'T DRIVE IT! till its repaired in the dealer.

May the force be with you...
