A Scottish brewery claims to have created the world's strongest beer - a 65 per cent super strength alcoholic drink called Armageddon.

Strong: Armageddon

The appropriately named beer is likely to leave consumers feeling like it’s the end of the world the next morning, with a pint containing 37 units of alcohol - twice the recommended weekly intake for a man.

Created by Scottish firm Brewmeister, the product is proving so popular with beer fans that there is currently a two-week wait for delivery.

The beer is made from ingredients including crystal malt, wheat and flaked oats and is freeze fermented to bring it to the required ABV.

Brewmeister says the beer should be 'consumed like a fine whisky', adding: 'Despite being 65 per cent, the beer has a lot of flavour - malty, hoppy, slightly sweet and lots of yeast still in the beer.

'Be careful though, smelling it is probably enough to put you over the limit!'

Brewery founder Lewis Shand told Standard Media: 'The phrase "delivers a punch" doesn’t quite cut it - delivers a supersonic charged explosion is probably more appropriate.'

A 41 per cent beer called Sink The Bismarck! was the previous record holder before Armageddon's recent market introduction.
