Road noise

Brand new to this web site. I have a 1999 Corolla 1.6GS. Super build quality, but it is so noisy to drive! Driving over any road bump / pothole and it sounds like I'm inside a huge drum! And the endless tyre noise is so tiring. There is no noise insulation under the bonnet or under any of the carpets. Any ideas?

Some tires are particularly bad for road noise. First of all check the pressures are correct though as this can contribute significantly if they are wrong.

Sound proofing should be available from Toyota if it was an option. Otherwise get some heavy felt for under the carpets inside and the inside of the firewall / bulkhead.

Short of that a standard fix on Land Rovers to combat excessive noise and rattling is to fit a louder stereo.
