Worried About Toyota's Quality And Torque Of 1.8 Hybrid

So I have been doubly hit. I have had to pay around £800 extra for an extended warranty. And the car has dropped in value because Toyota is seen not to have provided the manufacturers warranty.

I seem to be missing something here. If you've bought the extended warranty I would have thought that puts you in the same position as later cars with the longer warranty. Isn't it that simple?

Later gen3s got the extra 2 years warranty as standard (free).

Us early gen3 owners have had to pay £700 to £800 to get the extra 2 years.

On the other hand, the later gen3s had gone up a bit in price.

The problem is if you want to sell an early gen3. The second hand value is not good.

Something that gen3s with the 5 year warranty don't have a problem with.

Many Gen2s have a better second hand value than early gen3s :(

My point was that if you have paid for an extra 2 years warranty then you now have a car with a five year warranty not three years.

Back in April I did a scan through the used car ads and posted this

I’m puzzled by the low exchange values for 2009/early 2010 GenIII because this doesn’t seem to be reflected in the retail prices that dealers are asking. I’ve just scanned the Toyota website and found that around the £16,000 mark there is a mix of long and short warranty cars with otherwise similar specs and mileages. Is this just a case of the dealers finding an opportunity to increase their margins?

I've just repeated the exercise looking on Toyota site for Prius T-Spirits with a '10' registration. Seven cars came up with a three year warranty with an average mileage of 39,000 and average price of £13,854. Only one car came up with longer warranty and it had 57,000 miles at a price of £13,275. Not a very scientific comparison I admit, but it does still suggest to me that the prices of early GenIII cars are not very different from those of later cars and the much more significant factor is mileage. I repeat the question, is this just a case of the dealers finding an opportunity to increase their margins?

I am sure that you are correct.
