Japanese Model Names of Toyota

Paul Ranson

I'm trying to compose a list of all the names of toyota models and thier comparable model name in the UK.

Apparently this could be a the basis for a PHD thesis as Toyota seem to have a different name for thier vehicles on different days of the week.

My intention is to post the results on my site www.spam.com

Any help would be appreciated.

I'll start it off...

Apparently

Prado = Land Cruiser

Anyone know of any more?

Cheers

Paul

This has been done to a certain extent somewhere else on this forum, it will probably take some finding but it is definately somewhere around, if I remember correctly Carolgsby put the list up....

I'll have a look :o

Here's a few;

Altezza - IS200

Soarer - SC430

Aristo - GS300

Vitz/Platz - Yaris/Echo

Fun Cargo - Yaris Verso/Echo Verso

MRS - MR2

Ipsum - Picnic

Estima - Previa

Duet - Daihatsu Sirion

The trouble with a list like this is that in the year 2001/2002 there were over 50 different models in Toyotas home market line-up and they've been selling cars under different names in different markets for years so it would take ages to do a complete list, something which I just don't have time to do!

And I thought Legbreaker was joking about a Toyota Corsa....

You can imagine the fun you could have with one of those...

"So what do you drive..."

"A Corsa..."

"One of those small crappy things???"

"erm, not quite that small...

"Your having a giraffe aren't you ???"

"No the small car's the starlet..."

"But thats Toyota..."

"So's the Corsa"

"What the #### are you on a bout..."

etc. etc. etc....

lmao...

Hi, I got a Toyota, which apparantly, from what i found on the net, was intended for Japan (though i bought new from the local (eu) Toyota dealer).

The car says:

Toyota Corolla XL 1.3

It is a Liftback version, electric windows, central locking and all that crap (no sun roof).

Body model inside says: EE90R

Engine model says: 2E

Engine sticker says:2E-E

The car looks like a AE92 liftback (tho, slight differences in headlamps and so).

I cannot find to buy parts for it, as when i show the photo, who tells me it is a Sprinter, who tells me it is a Levin, or even Seca, and i never succeed to get across into finding the kit for THIS particular car, so if anyone had a better idea to what is its true name, i would greatly appreciate it.

This car was called Sprinter Cielo in Japan.

Regretfully the model name has already disappeared.

Ever see a toyota corsa?

There’s one by me but it doesn’t look anything like the car in the picture, for starters its a hatchback about the same size as a Starlet only not as tall and a lot squarer like an early Clio. I don’t know what engines in it but its not a sporty one, probably a 1.0 or a 1.3.

Acutualy here, Toyota Corsa is WAY common (all from japan - 1.5TD, mainly AT).

They are usualy either like a Tercel (either exactly the same, or slight backlight difference), or they look like 3 door Corolla II/Windy, of which i have a pic of a nice one.

I don't quite get why toyota give different names to the same cars, ( i am not talking about Jap/EU names) but example here we get a lot of cars from Japan, and you find the Tercel/Corsa which are both jap imports and both the same car.

Different names are normal with Car manufacturers for different markets. Some car names would effect the market they are aiming at in different countries....

It's a lot easier to give a car a different name in different markets rather than trying to find one name which is suitable for all markets.....

You can't put a car into a market if the model name is already taken by another manufacturer eg: GM's Corsa

I see, guess makes sense, but makes it harder for a manufacture's fans to keep up with the different cars which some are the same, or to find parts and kits and stuff on places where you cannot see before you buy, like on the net.
