A 17-year-old girl has been dubbed a real-life Sleeping Beauty due to a rare illness that causes her to sleep for up to eight weeks at a time.

Nicole Delian once slept through Christmas and Thanksgiving in one go

Nicole Delian sometimes only wakes up to eat and once slept for 64 days, missing both Christmas and Thanksgiving.

And when she wakes up, Nicole has no idea where she has been for the time she's been sleeping.

The disorder, known as Kleine-Levin Syndrome -- or 'Sleeping Beauty Syndrome' - causes Nicole to sleep as much as 17 or 18 hours every night and was first diagnosed when she was eight.

‘We took her from doctor to doctor, they still couldn’t figure out what it was,' said mother Vicki Delian. ‘One doctor even said she was doing it for attention’

‘She has slept form 34 to 64 days straight, only waking up to eat,' she added.

‘We have to ease her back in gently because it really bothers her when she realises she missed Christmas again. It’s devastating for her.'

There is no known cure for the illness, which has been described as a cross between epilepsy and narcolepsy.

But Nicole is able to space out her episodes of sleep using medicine.

Can anyone else see the potential of this illness...
