Ae86 Pops & Spits

My AE86 has always had a what i can describe as a momentarily popping at about 7000rpm (like a rev limiter), but it dosnt always happen, which it also clears once past that rpm!!

But recently my head gasket let go between 3 & 4! which when that happened i automatically thought that was what the problem wuz!

But now the car is all up and running again i thought it may have cured it! Much to my annoyance it hasnt! I have checked my timing/emmisions etc and i only run high octane Shell Optimax which it seems to love!

I was wondering if any of you AE86'ers have ever had a similar problem?, such as a faulty injector/fuel pump etc! cuz it does seem to be like fuel starvation! like i used to have on my MK2 Escort so i uprated the fuel pump!

I never had any problem like this on any of my previos 4AGE engined cars! neither has any of my customers cars (due to i work for Toyota!)
