Steering Will Not Self Centre When Driving My Yaris 2002

Hi,

I am new to this forum. I have recently bought a Toyota Yaris and the car has very low Mileage for a 2002. My problem is that when I drive it around a roundabout or around a corner or even on a curvy road the steering will not self centre.

It has electric power steering and it has been checked out by a garage recently and they have told me that the track rod end were taken ou and they checked the strut bearing and ball joints and they are not seized.

They say that the electric steering unit seems to be ok as it showed no errors. They initially said prior to picking up the car that it may be a coupling that has seized between the body and the steering column but no further mention of this was said. They say that in their opinion the steering rack and pinion is stiff and this is the problem.

They have quoted a a high price and I said I would think about it. I have contacted a Jap spares garage and they can supply a secondhand one.

Please can you help, as I am at a loss as to what could be the problem.

Thanks you in Advance

AlexT

Hi, I am also experiencing this problem on my 2005 Yaris Sprint 1.3.

I hope someone knows the answer. Cheers. B.
