Chip Tuning In Long Term

I'm looking to buy a good chip tuning box for my 2006 Avensis 2.2 D-4D (2AD-FHV) with manual transmission.

My purpose is to get better fuel efficiency not necessary bigger torque/power. But I'm worried about engine stress and wear in long term.

What are your experience and would you recommend this to me?

Having had a piggy back box previously on my avensis i wouldnt recommend it to anyone to be honest. It improves response but i beleive it tricks your mpg counter into thinking you are doing more mpg but in reality you are more than likely (certainly in my case) doing the same or less!!! It cant be good for engine wear as the engine frequently cut out whilst being in the fast lane of the motorway sharply making me **** my pants!!! Lol. I removed the box and car has been safe and sound ever since. A complete engine remap from a specialist IS the only way ahead in my eyes so fingers crossed somebody cracks the denso ECU sooner rather than later!!! Haha. Hope this helps somewhat,

Kind regards Phil

What make of piggy-back box did you use? I have 2 TUNIT boxes running on both my VW and Avensis without any issues to date. They are expensive new @£485... But used they are around the £100-£150 mark and mine still had over 2 years warranty left on them. DTUK have had some good reviews and there are quite a lot of threads on this forum about boxes.

As said... To date NO one has been able to crack the Denso ECU!.... And for that reason the D-CAT system can't be removed even when companies say it can...

DTUK is the one i had from new, may have good reviews just not for me im afraid, just glad to contibute to the ongoing debate, haha, in my view they only trick the engine into performance increases rather than do the job properly as a remap would, but unfornately that is still out the question. Lol

Kind regards Phil

I can only comment on the TUNIT and would recommend them. But not at £485 as I don't think any box (Or re-map) is worth that kinda wonga. You'd take years to get back from any fuel save from what you paid out for the gizzmo... I understand that there are other boxes out there that also adjust the Turbo timing ect. As most (Including TUNIT) only play around with the fuel rail...

I had one of the TMC boxes supplied by Kingo on two avesis' a 2.0 D4D and a 2.2 D4D on both cars they worked perfectly and gave increased MPG as well as increased torque and BHP.

I now have a 2011 model which uses a different type of box as it has Piezo injectors and I have to say this does not work as well as the previous models.

I still have the one from the 2.2 in perfect order if interested you can send me a personal message and we can discuss it.
