Wax Putting Crabs On Endangered Species List

Pubic lice, or ‘crabs’ as they are better known, could be on the way out because of the bikini wax.

The parasites may now be an endangered species because of the female beauty treatment, which involves getting pubic hair removed.

Doctors found as the hair disappeared so did the lice that inhabited it.

The Sydney Sexual Health Centre in Australia reported it had not dealt with women suffering from crabs since 2008 and cases in men had decreased by 80 per cent in ten years.

‘It used to be extremely common; it’s now rarely seen,’ said Basil Donovan, sexual health worker at the centre.

‘Without doubt, it’s better grooming.’

Trimming pubic hair has become more popular over the years with a US survey reporting over 80 per cent of those attending college removed all or part of their hair.

Medical entomologist Ian F Burgess added: ‘Pubic grooming has led to a severe depletion of crab louse populations.

‘Add to that other aspects of body hair depilation, and you can see an environmental disaster in the making for this species.’

In the interests of preserving our disappearing louse population I would propose that a survey be done, asap, & the results analysed for future reference.

As I have time on my hands at the moment, I would volunteer to examine a random selection of Females, say, 10 per day for the next year. That should do it. Overtime is not a problem.
