I have a 1998 Toyota Corolla LE with sunroof. While trying to "fix" a stuck sunroof, I made things much worse by bending the interior sliding part and forcing it outside its rails. Now the sunroof will not close completely, and while the weather has been great lately, I've been worrying about rain. The dealership will most likely ask for an exorbitant sum just to take a look at it; and I just want to try smoothing out the slide and putting it back in its rails until I can afford to have it fixed.

How can I reach the sunroof fittings so I can get the sliding part out of its rails, smooth the edges out, and fit it back in? I understand this involves removing the interior lining. The Haynes' manual doesn't seem to have anything about removing the lining. Can anyone help? Will I need anything other than a Phillips screwdriver (and time) to remove the ceiling lining?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ive got a similar problem at the mo, but ive got the earlier model corolla. To get my headlining down i have to remove the screws at the front of the cabin, the ones that hold up the sun visors and the rear-view mirror. Leave the ones that hold the cabin light in place because they are not attached to the roof. theres a seperate plate they screw into and its a paint trying to get it back in the right place.

then you have to take out most of the plastic trim which attaches to the top because the head lining clips in behind it. most of it just pops out with plastic clips, you have to be force full with some, but be careful that you dont break any of the clips....

Then it should come down quite easily.. just be carefull again. Its likely that you will crease it but this can be fixed either with a low-heat iron and towls over it or use a steam cleaning kit when its back up and they should come out...

Hope that helps
