Thinking Of Prius Gen3

The nav is pretty rubbish anyway, don't get hung up on it.

OMG, is it that bad?...

Good point with the sat nav is that it has a nice big screen and is always available. If you decide you're lost you can quickly put in your destination without having to get it out, connect the wire and hope it doesn't fall off the dash as you drive.

Problems are the maps are out of date and the chosen route is sometimes very strange.

Trunk roads changes aren't a problem as the altered route is always well signed. It is a problem when you are trying to find a small road or a POI. For example I tried to find a branch of IKEA on a recently built trading estate. The road (and IKEA) have been there for at least six years so should have been on the map on my three year old car. It also lacks a friends road that has existed for at least 10 years.

The other frustration is that it often seems to take a very strange route. If I don't know the area I simply follow instructions and am no wiser, If I do know a short cut I take it and let the sat nav catch up later.

That's an absolute no brainer, old sausage. Get thee to a Lexus.

Thanks, guys :)

However, I think that won't change anything about the issues with maps, will it? Lexus use the same ones, AFAIK :D

Whichever you go for, just make it a condition of sale it has the latest map upgrade in it when you pick it up, would be my way forward. That's what I've always done.

Staves off the issue for a while anyway.

.....but just make sure you can find a space in the multi-storey big enough to park it!

Lol

Never mind the multistoreys, my office car park is tight :)

Yes, I have thought of that. It is 7 cm longer than my Mazda and 2.5 cm wider. I hope I can cope with that.

Besides, I like big cars :)

Yes, exactly, that's why I want a built-in.

To be honest I found these problems on all the sat-navs I used so far (I think it would be 4, all different makes), so I am not scared by it. I do not need to use it too often and most of the time I can cope with that kind of problems.

Thanks for the tip! I'll do that if possible.

Also I found out that the Lexus has a separate DVD drive for the maps, so no loading it to the hard-disk. Just need DVDs and that's it.

......... Within the same car buy price shall I go for saving money (Prius) or a bit of luxury? :-)

After moving from powerful luxury to the Prius my pocket has got used to the reduced motoring costs and stopped appreciating it, but my head still misses the power and luxury.
