Hi guys and gals, picking up my 2004 Rav4 xt-4 this week, but noticed that the interior door handles and the gear surround have worn pretty badly.

Was thinking of just taking them off and respraying them silver.

Question is are the door handle trims easy to come off?

Thanks peeps

Steven

Are we talking about the metal pull handle bits, or the plastic escutcheon trims behind the chromed handles.....?

Hi Steven,

See if this link I posted a while ago helps?

Not sure if the design changed much on your slightly newer model?
As you will see the black plastic inner from the handle prizes off to gain access to screws but the silver handle is permanently fixed. They looked like they had been melted together from what I remember.

I think yours is the opposite way round to mine.....Silver insert and black handle like in this image.....

If it is then there should be a small slot in the very bottom of the silver insert that you can use to prise it off for re-spraying/vinyl wrapping.

Enjoy the RAV when you get it!! :)

Yeah that's exactly the way the car is. Just spoke to the garage and I get to pick the car up tonight.

That kind of area will wear fast in terms of protective lacquer over the paint I would expect so you may need something a bit harder wearing then aerosol clear coat :(

Aerosol clearcote is ok so long as it has time to harden off.
